Dinosaur Week

We had such a fun week with our Dinosaur theme!  We did lots of crafts, activities, tracing, and reading.  Some of Elijah's favorite things from the week were:

Matching Dinosaurs: Although he gets kind of frustrated that the puzzle pieces don't "fit" together like his other floor puzzle pieces work, he still works hard to find all the right matches.

Making Dinosaur Fossils:  This was by far his favorite activity of the week; He even asked to do this a second time!   First, pressing the dinosaurs into the playdough molds.  Then admiring his "fossils".  He ended up doing all sorts of other things like pressing the dinosaurs' feet in the playdough to see their different footprints and putting the playdough on top of a container and mounting dinosaurs on the top.  He was really creative with this activity.

Making an Elijah-Saurus!  We actually named him "Lijah-tops".  He did such a great job with this, and his favorite part was getting to use glue all by himself.  He definitely put way more glue than necessary to stick the things on, but he was so proud of himself and super creative so I just let him go to town.

Shape Dinosaur Craft:  We took lots of different shapes that I had cut out and (following a picture of a dinosuar) glued them on paper to make dinosaurs.  He thought this was fun and actually put most of the pieces in the right places.

Counting Dinosaurs:  Elijah has really improved in his counting skills over the past weeks, but he still struggles with the 1 to 1 counting by placing something over the pictures.  He does much better just pointing to the pictures.  He really works hard to learn this and always love to clap for himself at the end of each counting card.

Tracing:  As you can see from the picture, E's got skills- tracing skills!  This is an activity he did not enjoy much in the beginning but has really come to enjoy recently.

Matching Colors:  This is a breeze for E- matching baby dinosaur eggs with their mommies.  The only thing is that he still cannot identify the colors by name.  We'll keep working on it.  I actually just saw that the blog I follow for tot school posted a rainbow themed printable pack so we will definitely be working through that soon.
 

And finally our favorite books for the week (Thanks to www.amazon.cn we are able to get so many fun new books for reasonable prices and best of all free shipping to us right here!): "The Dinosaur Who Lived in My Backyard", "Dinosaurumpus" (Elijah absolutely loved doing this little "jig" to start out each day), "Harry and the Bucket Full of Dinosaurs", and "How Do Dinosaurs Play With Their Friends?" which makes me laught everytime we read it.
